Dave Spicer BMus, MMus
BMus, MMus (Piano Performance), MMus (Vocal Pedagogy)
Dave Spicer is a pianist, vocalist, and songwriter with over 25 years on stages worldwide — from the Sydney Opera House to festivals and concert halls internationally. As a session musician, he has played on hundreds of albums across a wide range of genres. He has performed for Her Majesty The Queen, at the United Nations Summit, and at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
For two decades, Dave has taught voice, piano, musicianship, and ensembles at leading institutions including Griffith University Conservatorium of Music, Jazz Music Institute (JMI), and University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ). Across those years he has worked with hundreds of students from first-year through postgraduate level — in one-on-one lessons, group coaching, lectures, and ensemble direction. His former students now perform and teach at institutions worldwide.
Dave sits in an extremely rare space: a pianist who understands vocal pedagogy, and a voice specialist who speaks band. That combination means he can work with a vocalist on technique and phrasing, then turn to the rhythm section and talk feel, dynamics, and arrangement — all in the same session. Whether it's a school ensemble, a university cohort, or a community choir, he meets the room where it is and takes it somewhere better.
In 2024, Dave founded EchoVQ, an AI-powered vocal practice platform — the first of its kind — that brings real-time vocal analysis, personalised feedback, and structured practice tools to singers and voice teachers everywhere. EchoVQ combines his two decades of teaching philosophy with his background as a full-stack developer, and is currently being validated through academic research.
Dave is a KAWAI Artist (ANZ) and is based in Brisbane, Australia. He runs workshops and masterclasses for schools, universities, studios, and community groups nationally and internationally.
