The Svara Project

Creating understanding, awareness and appreciation for voice through education, advocacy and outreach.

About

Svara (Sanskrit): successive steps of the octave; the ancient Indian concept about the complete dimension of musical pitch, including scales, tuning, composition, and melody

Project: an individual or collaborative enterprise that is carefully planned and designed to achieve a particular aim.

Why The Svara Project?

Dr. Reena Gupta is known for producing some of the most innovative, diverse, interactive, and informative vocal educational events in the field. She has developed highly attended and well-reviewed conferences globally, all with the aim of elevating people’s understanding of voice and expanding the collective knowledge base. When we have a higher level of understanding, our patients, clients, and students benefit.

The Svara Project was born of the need to translate these educational events into a global movement that changed the world of voice.

Our Mission

  • Educate through initiatives, workshops, and programs

  • Advocate for vocal artists and vocal health

  • Engage in charitable endeavors to help vocal arts thrive

  • Stand for mental health and artist safety

  • Connect the world of voice professionals

In 2020, The Svara Project released its first charitable music project. Observing how artists were struggling during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the team launched worldwide auditions to hire artists to work on a music project. The Svara team recognized that singers wanted to get back to singing and that the world needed music again.

The team produced The Distance You Have Come, by composer Scott Alan. It includes singers from all over the world and was a call-to-action for the whole world to recognize what we have lost when we had to shut down performances. We’d lost the gift of music and voice.

These initiatives are the foundation of The Svara Project: educate, elevate, connect and give back.
