Singing teachers and vocal coaches are the ultimate champions of a singer’s development—acting as the frontline trainers and cheerleaders for vocal athletes. However, the modern teaching studio demands heavy, sustained vocal loads and complex emotional labour, which can easily compromise a teacher’s own instrument and wellbeing. Drawing on recent data from a mixed-methods investigation into singing teachers’ vocal demands and health, this session shifts the focus back to the educator. We will unpack the key risk factors associated with voice problems in pedagogical settings and translate this research into an actionable framework for the studio. Attendees will learn specific, practical strategies for daily vocal pacing, managing emotional load, and mitigating fatigue. You will leave this session equipped and empowered to safeguard your own health, ensuring you remain at your very best for both your students and yourself.
